With the Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards looming fast and The Other Design Agency being short listed for Most Promising New Business 2010 the time had come for the moment we’d all been dreading… The Corporate Show Reel! (Insert your own thunder and lighting clatter)
Yes it has to be said, The Other Design Agency prefer to shy away from being in front of the camera, feeling far more at home directing and creating. After straw’s were drawn and then drawn again with plenty of “No, you do it” thrown in just for good measure Richard was “delegated” the task of handling the piece to camera. As soon as the footage has been edited and the awards night has taken place we’ll up-load the video onto this blog.
“Let’s just say we have renewed sympathy for the times when we put our clients through there paces in front of the camera!” Richard Added.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce judges have selected The Other Design Agency as one of the three finalists for the 2010 Derbyshire Business Awards “Most Promising New Business” category. We’re delighted to get this accolade and now we’ll wait until the Awards Evening on Friday 26th February 2010 to see if we pick up the ultimate prize. Other awards on the evening will be for Innovation through Technology, The Environment Award, Business Skills and Staff Development, Entrepreneur of the Year, Achievement in International Business and Business of the Year.

We came across Voice UK in 2009 as one of our clients, Kathryn Stone OBE, is their Chief Executive. This charity exists to support people with learning disabilities and other vulnerable people who have experienced crime or abuse. It also supports their families, carers and professional workers. The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists is the UK’s largest trade body within the professional beauty industry. The Guild has over 6,000 members, all of whom are fully qualified beauty and holistic therapists. Guild Gazette is their bi-monthly 68 page glossy magazine and The Other Design Agency was invited to submit concepts and sample page layouts. Happy with the initial work, The Guild sent over the copy for the January/February edition in early December. Only days later the artwork was print ready and in the first week of January the magazine was mailed out to their members.

Creative design should be engaging, beautiful and rewarding and it shouldn’t be a bottomless pit into which you just throw money. It is paramount that you commission an agency that puts your “return on investment” ahead of their own agenda. An agency that is only interested in creativity is actually not a good agency to work with. When you commission an advertisement, a website or a brochure it needs to have a discernible effect on the bottom line.

The Other Design Agency has developed a close working relationship with the Mark Scott Salon group. Creative design, web, print, point of sale, advertising, public relations and training material are all included in the mandate. Salon Director Mark felt that Richard was so much a part of the team that he and wife Lucy were invited to the Mark Scott Ball at Morley Hayes to join eighty of the Group’s staff and their partners who partied the night away to celebrate yet another successful year.
